Dear Friends

On behalf of the International Fencing Federation and the entire world fencing community, I am pleased to welcome you to the majestic and historic city of Torun, Poland for the 2019 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships.

Torun is one of Poland’s oldest cities and fencing is one of the first Olympic sports. Over the centuries, Torun has been considered a home of diversity to many people, just as fencing attracts a wide variety of competitors. Torun is also regarded one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, just as fencing is one of the most elegant sports.

We are seeing a rising interest in fencing all over the world, and for young athletes the Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships is the first appearance on the global stage. Young fencers from every corner of the Earth will spend nine days and compete in 18 events playing with their new and old friends, forging relationships to last a lifetime. Every participant of the Championships will leave Torun with memories and experiences they will surely never forget.

I encourage you to explore this beautiful city and enjoy its many attractions, including Gothic architecture, museums, and more. The medieval section of Torun has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 and its Old Town—one of the Seven Wonders of Poland— offers a wealth of culture and history to enhance your journey.

We are grateful to the Polish Fencing Federation and the local organizing committee, as well as to the many volunteers, officials, and staff members for their hard work in making this event possible. In particular, I would like to thank Mr. Adam Konopka, the President of the Polish Fencing Federation, for his leadership.

I invite you to come to Toruń for the 2019 Junior and Cadet Fencing World It is with great pleasure that I welcome all the participants, organizers and fans at the Junior World Fencing Championships Toruń 2019 in the Kujawy and Pomorze. I am delighted that our Region is the host of this important event. Moreover, I am immensely proud that the best of the best, young stars of saber, epée, and foil, have chosen Toruń as their meeting point.

Fencing in Kujawsko-Pomorskie has its own firm tradition as well as recent victories. The position of Poland in the world hierarchy of this discipline was set, among others, by Adam Papée from Bydgoszcz, a two-time bronze Olympic medalist from Amsterdam 1928 and Los Angeles 1932. The last two decades have been marked by the achievements of talented youth from Budowlani Toruń, regularly winning medals of the World and European Championships. What is more, Toruń has its own organizational successes – it hosted 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships and 2016 European Senior Championships.

Kujawsko-Pomorskie is a special place on the map of Poland. The heritage of Nicolaus Copernicus, gothic monuments, music institutions and festivals, as well as top-class performers, areas of protected nature and protected landscape, production of deluxe food and fascinating culinary tradition make this region unique and unforgettable. I am convinced that you will remain with the most positive impression and will be eager to visit us again in the future. You are always welcome here.

Citius, altius, forties – faster, higher, stronger! Let this Olympic motto, as well as the rules of fair play, be with you during the Junior World Fencing Championships Toruń 2019. I wish you a noble competition, satisfying results and a great time!

Dear Fans of Fencing!

I invite you to come to Toruń for the 2019 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships. The event will take place in the city which is famous in Poland and around the world for being the birthplace of the renowned astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. Toruń also enjoys the reputation of one of the most popular tourist destinations in Poland and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Toruń, however, is also a city which boasts many generations of fencers of the highest class.

The fencers belonging to the clubs and school fencing teams from Toruń have won medals at Poland Cup, European and world championships, frequently serving as pillars of the national fencing team. It was probably for this reason that Toruń was chosen as the venue for 2013 European Fencing Championships U23 or 2016 European Fencing Championships. We will take advantage of these exceptional traditions and sport assets while hosting the 2019 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships. They will be held in accordance with the highest fencing standards and we are already prepared for that.

We are looking forward to being shown the best in fencing, here in Toruń.
We will have the honour of playing host to the championships and will put at your disposal the entire sport potential of our city. We will also encourage you to become familiar with the unique cultural charms of Toruń – a city beloved particularly by young people.

Dear Fencing Fans,

With great joy on behalf of the Management Board of the Polish Fencing Federation and own behalf, I would like to welcome all participants on Cadet and Junior World Championships in fencing in Torun 2019. In particular, I welcome all the fencing, coaches, referees and activists of the International Fencing Federation. I also welcome the fans of fencing gathered in the audience.

I am very glad that the Cadet and Junior World Championships in Torun gained approval of all members of the FIE, and gathered in this place such a large group of people. Championships taking place today is thanks to the enormous commitment of all people working in the preparation of the event, organizers, activists and volunteers.

No less value is given us support and hospitality of the authorities of Torun and the possibility of organizing in this city Cadet and Junior World Championships in fencing. For its part, I hope that this great cooperation will be able to be continued in future years.

Many thanks will also be given to the sponsors and partners of this tournament, who are supportive of the organizers. Without their lecture, it would be difficult to maintain the organization of this event at such a high level.
